Celebrate Independence Day - Test Run

So to celebrate the upcoming holiday, I thought I would throw together a few festive outfits for different occasions to spend Independence Day. I put together three options for a daytime picnic, a casual dinner with friends, or maybe a date night for those who are ambitious.

For my date night, I strayed a bit from the traditional cherry red, royal blue and bright white. I targeted a more muted color scheme of maroon, navy, and cream. I haven't pulled this shirt out in a while and had to hunt it down it was buried so deeply in my closet. But alas, I rummaged through my closet long enough to uncover it from hiding (and it wasn't even wrinkly).

For dinner with friends, I once again called in my white jeans from the bullpen. Odd as it may seem, I think my favorite part about this outfit ended up being the navy tank sneaking out from under the red shirt. It ended up in this mix sort of by accident, but after putting it on, it seemed a pretty obvious fit. Like so much of my style journey over the last few years, I continue to learn in large part by just trying something on and giving it a whirl.

Lastly, I put together a very casual combination for a daytime picnic with the family. Picnics with my family always include food but generally we focus our energies on playing sports - volleyball, whiffle ball, softball, hockey, or whatever is in season. So I needed something I could run around in (tennis shoes will be in my bag) and that would keep me cool. I think I could play any of the aforementioned sports in this get up.

I know this is completely unrelated, but The Little Guy and I shared a gourmet glazed donut from Glazed and Infused this morning. Our management company offered them up complimentary in our lobby. I know several foods are truly "American" and I think a good 'ol glazed donut definitely qualifies. I don't eat donuts often despite the myriad gourmet donut shops popping up around us, but I occasionally indulge because they are so darn delicious!
